In the finance office, a prepaid maintenance plan sounds like the most reasonable thing on the menu. You’ll change the oil and rotate the tires anyway, so why not lock in today’s prices and roll it into the payment? Then run an example: a $900 plan covering six services that would cost $90 each is worth $540 of work. Financed with interest, you pay more than $900 for it.
Before you buy, check what’s already free; some brands include scheduled maintenance for the first year or two. Many plans are also usable only at the selling dealer or a small group of participating stores. Sometimes a plan is a genuine deal. Below: how the dealer prices it, the break-even math step by step, when a plan makes sense, the terms to read first, how to buy one smart if you want it, and what to say at the desk.
