Delivery day feels like the finish line. You’ve negotiated, signed, and someone is handing you keys and taking photos with a bow on the hood. That’s exactly when people stop paying attention, and it’s the last moment you have real leverage. Once you drive away, a scratch “you must have done” or a missing accessory becomes a debate.

From the dealership side, delivery moves fast because the dealer wants the car delivered and the deal counted, often before month end. Most dealers do a good job, but lot damage, forgotten accessories and slipped promises happen. Free tip: say, “I’d like 20 minutes to look it over before I sign the delivery receipt,” and inspect in daylight. Below: the exterior and interior walkaround, items to receive, paperwork to have in hand, what to do if you find a problem, a worked example, and what to say.
