The sales floor sells each powertrain on one number: the EV on ‘no gas,’ the hybrid on miles per gallon, the gas car on the lower sticker. None of those is the cost of owning the car. The cost is the five-year total, a six-line sum that takes fifteen minutes to build for any three cars. Once you have it, the choice is usually obvious and often not what the showroom was pushing.

Below is the framework, then one worked example with every figure labeled. The numbers are illustrative for a compact crossover; prices, incentives, electricity and fuel vary by model, state and month, so plug in your own.

Upload the dealer’s worksheet or buyer’s order and a FMYCAR advisor validates every line (price, trade, fees, rate, term, add-ons) and tells you exactly what to fix before you sign. Typical clients find $800–$3,000 of markup, fees and products they didn’t need; typical, not guaranteed, and if the deal is clean we tell you to sign.
